From the miraculous sea we migrate westward, to the desert that spans most of the area at the opposite side of Hurghada city. Desert is something you can always count on here in Africa, it’s just a couple of miles away from the city:

Happy New Year everyone!
The lucky thirteen has come to an end. One of my achievements in the last year was reaching the total run of 800 km. I registered all my workouts in a Google Drive spreadsheet (you can use this document as a template if you wish). Among other things, it gives you a forecast on the total run at the end of the year, which is a very good motivation. It forced me for one to run 25 km in the last two days of 2013.
Little blue train
This cute little blue vintage train was spotted today at the Amersfoort Central train station:
Whether it’s a well-maintained old piece or just a mockup, I don’t know.
Harlingen
During our trip to Leeuwarden we have also visited, among other places, the port town of Harlingen.
The highlights of that visit can be described as: wind, sky, open water and VIEWS. Harlingen is so small that it’s barely visible on a map, so but 15 thousand people enjoy these views.
DKLang Localization Package 4.01 & 5.0
Happy Friday the 13th! Bruce Miller, the current maintainer of DKLang, is bringing great news for Delphi developers.
It’s been five years since DKLang Localization Package was last revised (time flies!). You might think that it had been abandoned, but no, it did its intended job well enough and it was solid enough that it didn’t need an update.
Leeuwarden
I’d like to show you a bit of northern Dutch summer in our damp off-season. Last June we’ve visited the city of Leeuwarden (Frisian: Ljouwert), situated in the very north of Holland. It is the capital city of the Friesland province, which is famous for its language that makes very little sense to an average Dutch.

Autumn and Armillaria Again
It’s automn here again. Some annoyed expats keep insisting there’s only just this season in Holland, but that’s not true.
We are fortunate enough to live in a very picturesque woodland area. One of these days we went on a hike in one of numerous forests called Baarnse Bos and situated near the equally picturesque village Baarn (which I posted about five years ago).
Two more nights with Stream of Passion
It’s been a while since I wrote about the masters of drive and female vocals, one of my favourites, Stream of Passion. They’re still there and have even recently toured in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, which they posted about on their Facebook page.
Just before those, very special for both sides, events I’ve visited two performances happened with an interval of one week.
Sound Switcher Indicator ‣ 1.1.1
The application indicator for Ubuntu called Sound Switcher Indicator (which I blogged about) has been updated to version 1.1.1. There’s no new functionality in this release, its main purpose is to make the indicator work in Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander). It was broken because of a bug in libdbusmenu

Aikikai Amersfoort website
I’ve done something useful in my spare time. I crafted a website for my aikido school (or dojo) called Aikikai Amersfoort, which is now located at aikikai-amersfoort.nl.
The former website was really ancient-looking, built back in 2004 and totally outdated. For example, one had to download an .avi file if they wanted to watch a video. YouTube did not exist at that remote moment.
How-to: Multiplicity in Gimp
My today’s story is about a well-known yet impressive graphic editing technique called multiplicity. It allows you to multiply objects on a photo—most commonly people, but it can be just as well kittens or lawn-mowers. Using this technique, you can make pictures like this:
I’m a Linux guy and hence my favourite graphic editing tool is Gimp, but the same can be done with any other editor that supports layers and masks.
