Suddenly I got a whim to start a section about music, which could inform the dear reader about music pearls I discovered. I’d love to subscribe to something like that myself so that I could learn about new (or even forgotten old) talents. There are lots of them out there, but quite often they’re not widely known.

The choice of exhibits for Musicellaneous will be at my sole discretion, based on factors like how my left little toe feels, the weather on Io and Donald Trump’s statements.

And the first card in our card index will be the American progressive/djent band Arch Echo.

It was the second time that the surprisingly talented young Australian guitarist Plini has visited us here. In the show last year, which I didn’t get to post about, he was supporting the djent stars Animals as Leaders.

This time he was himself the headliner, and his support acts were David Maxim Micic and Disperse.

Five days ago the mighty Arjen Lucassen has announced on his Facebook page two live shows of his Ayreon mega-project, which got the name Ayreon Universe. The shows were scheduled for 15 and 16 September 2017, with the official ticket sale starting on 24 November at 10:00 CET.

Last Saturday was marked by a show by the prog metal band Myrath from Tunisia (Northern Africa). The venue was the club Patronaat in Haarlem, Netherlands. Myrath is unique not only because of its origin, but also thanks to a magnificent combination of heavy sound and Arabic motives and instruments in their music. Furthermore, they have a belly dancer!

I’ve finally nerved myself to tell you about a sad development for prog lovers.

I first learned about the Dutch prog band Sun Caged when I came to Holland back in 2008. Shortly after I’ve even seen them playing on Walhalla. I must say I was impressed. But three years later, in 2011, the band has released The Lotus Effect (which also happened to be their last album), I was totally blown away as this was absolutely a masterpiece of progressive metal. I can’t even explain why, but I deem this album one of the best rock works ever, and I seem to be able to listen to it endlessly.

The band Dream Theater is absolutely legendary. They are considered the founders of the progressive metal genre, and each of them alone is equally legendary. If you doubt that, just watch their Instrumedley video; not many musicians in the world are capable of playing something like that.

The band was presenting their new album The Astonishing in the Theater Carré in Amsterdam on February 23^rd.

My personal concert season open by the Nightwish fellas is at its climax.

I was fortunate to see a very popular (yet kind of underground) band called The Aristocrats on December 9^th. The band is playing some mindbogglingly complex tunes ranged from Jazz Fusion to Heavy Prog.
